Pairing clients and therapists based on a cultural or ethnic preference has demonstrated a lower client drop-out rates and increased treatment utilization in some cases*.

The extent to which a cultural match is necessary or useful in therapy depends on client preferences, characteristics, presenting problems, and treatment needs.
